KMBT Bounenkai / Cute Japanese Boys Post
Last Friday, December 14, our KMBT bosses Inui-san and Jun-kun held a bounenkai (end-of-year party) for us lowly contractuals (AWS, Sky, VSN, Fujisoft, atbp.) at this restaurant - bar? - in the Osaka area. I was having a really bad day kaya inisip ko talaga kailangan mag-enjoy ako! Nomihoudai 'to!!! (Note: Click on picture to get full effect)

I was like, "No no no no nooooooooooooooh!!!" pero shempre hindi ko rin kayang palampasin ang chance, wahahahahaha XD Pero ohmygod I still have to see these people on Monday. Hindi ko na sya tuloy maso-small talk pag kami lang ang tao sa yosihan, syet.

I remember being a grade schooler and rummaging through my mom's stack of old MOD (was it Women's Today?) magazines in search of her articles. Her column was entitled En Nui, something like that. The most memorable line? "'[Quote],' she said through a mouthful of dead chicken." I dunno, that line killed me. Anyway late last year I found her blog, and now I'm catching up on the stuff I've missed since I was hit by the KMBT bug (no pun intended.)
So yes, I've been reading Jessica Zafra material before she became the Jessica Zafra of the Manananggal stories, the Twisted columns, the talk shows, and most especially the totally drool-worthy association with Ely Buendia, my first serious OPM rock star crush.
In freshman year college, our Introduction to Poetry class had a project that involved creating a journal and writing about "something poetic" at least three times a week. I didn't always write about poetic stuff, just whatever I felt like writing. I looved writing in that journal. I think that project evolved into this blog, maybe. (On a totally off-tangent topic dammit my sentences are completely getting screwed over by 24/7 exposure to Nihongo. My brain is forcing Japanese grammar onto my sentence structures, seriously. If you know what I'm talking about HOW THE HELL DO YOU MANAGE?)
Anyway. Back to Jessica Zafra. Angelique Roux, my third year high school English class teacher, once told me that she doesn't like Jessica Zafra's writing. "Anybody can write like her. All she does is complain." Meanwhile, Paula Cirera, long-time secret crush of one of my "close" friends and one of those who read my original English class journal, wrote in her Friendster testi for me that "i love jame kasi she's funny and she has this cynical, deadpan Jessica Zafra-like writing style that I've always envied."
I'm not lifting my own chair. (Dammit my English is seriously being warped by spending too much time around Jim the God of Bug Fixing and Misuse of the English Language.) Reading Jessica's blog tonight, I realized, Pau may be right. Not about the funny and cynical and deadpan and enviable writing style part, just the Jessica Zafra-like part. I find her stuff really funny and intellectual and God I only wish I could write - or complain, as Miss Roux would put it - half as good as she does. It sounds really weird to say this, but maybe my mom's women's magazines helped turn me into the blogger I am today.
If I'm lucky, I too will have Ely Buendia's number on my phonebook someday. ;b
Haha. Wala lang. Hindi ako makatulog sa excitement for Dec9. :D

Nabuhay si Kuya Prus!
Today was such a bad day. I don't wanna talk about it.
Anyway just before I went home from the office nakita ko picture ni Rusty (admuECEzerofive) sa YM, tas naka-yukata sya, yung traditional Japanese, er, costume for guys. So I messaged him, and it turns out he's been in Osaka since October 2. I arrived in Itami on September 30. We've been just 12 kilometers apart all this time pala.
The good news? I won't have to spend Christmas holed up in my apartment since my trip to Tokyo was cancelled (damn you Ryan), Jim's going home din, and Jeff's girlfriend is coming over for the holidays (nai-imagine ko na yung DND sign sa pinto ni Jeff.) Meron na 'kong kasama sa Pasko, woohoo! Pag-uwi ko kanina tinawagan nya 'ko tas kwentuhan lang kami ng mga kagaguhan dito sa Japan. Baka sa Linggo magkita kami. Ang saya. :D

Wednesday, November 14, I was feeling down for a couple of reasons. (See "Top 5 Reasons Kung Bakit Panalo Ang Araw Na 'To", November 14.) I was so down that my motto for the next day was, "Wala ng mawawala." Turns out meron pa pala.
Thursday, November 15. I was performing machine testing on this bug fix I was working on, when suddenly... I died. I don't want to get into the details of what happened, but it would be suffice to say that I did in fact died. A little bit. At the end of the day, I sent an email to my boss Anjo telling him I wanted to die. Well, not in those words. But I think I got the point across.
Friday, November 16. Went to the office early so I could still sulk a little bit and bitch about my bad fortune. Kaso pagdating ko andun na si Anjo, and he talked to me. Ever so kindly. Then I checked my email, and may reply pa pala sya dun sa mail ko the night before.
The mail goes on to say stuff about what happened, tas ang ending, finorward ko yung mail kina Jeff at Jim.

November 18, Sunday, went to Nippombashi after church and bought a webcam and a 500GB external hard disk. Feeling ko sobrang omnipotent ko dahil meron akong 500 gigs of space. Haha. After we got home, nagluto kami nina Jim at Jeff ng one dish each for dinner at Jeff's apartment. Eto yung accomplishments namin:
Kay Jim yung Chicken a la king, kay Jeff yung clams. Akin yung tuna sashimi. Shempre pinakamasarap yung sashimi. Pinakamahirap pa i-prepare. Wahahahaha XD
November 19, Monday, birthday ni Bossing. Bullied, er, persuaded Sir Butch to treat us to yakiniku for dinner.

November 20, Tuesday, finished mondaiten 91199. I finally said sayounara to that freaking bug. Good fucking riddance.
November 21, Wednesday. Was going to have a peaceful meryenda with Sir Butch, Jeff, and Jim when all of a sudden, the guy in front of me at the vendo turned out to be none other than Lunch Guy himself. Shokku!!! Anyway Jim goes over to talk to him. I will keep it in Nihongo to protect the sanctity of the conversation.
Jim: "Yago-san no thesis wa magnetic storm desu ne."
Lunch Guy: "Eh? Shitteru?"
Jim: "Hai. Netto de sagashita."
Oh my GAWD that was the creepiest thing EVER. Sobrang nakakahiya. Much much MUCH creepier than some strange foreigner asking for a picture with him. Seriously.

November 22, Thursday. Akala ko just another weekly report ang mangyayari with the client, but nooooh, Ishikawa-san (our hot Japanese vice-president) had to show up for the meeting. Eto sya sa likod ko:
Ang nabalitaan ko dati, he only shouts at managers and project leaders. I now feel so special kase kahit subleader lang ako, nasigawan na rin nya 'ko. In front of my KMBT bosses. To be fair I received the lightest scolding (kasi siguro type nya 'ko or something, I dunno) pero still, I got scolded. Iniisip ko habang sinisigawan nya ko, shit I will walk with my head down in shame around KMBT for the next four months.
Yosi break kami afterwards, tas nagsswap kami ng stories how each of us got our heads bitten off by TI, and yung isang guy medyo luha-luha na talaga, tas biglang sabi nya,
J: "Hindi na nga ako na***** sa bahay e, sa office na lang kasi sobrang wala ng time!"
And he was soo serious when he said it too kaya di kami makatawa mashado. It was such a TMI moment, pero sobrang seryoso talaga nya di ko kinaya. May kasama pang mga luha e! Tas sabi pa nya,
J: "Cancer kasi ako e, kaya mukhang strong lang ako sa labas, pero sa loob malambot talaga 'ko."
Hindi na namin kinaya talaga. Sir Butch went, "Ow kamon!!!" tas tawa na kami nang tawa. Strong ampota e iyak nang iyak. Angkulet sobra shet.

And Anjo was explaining it to me and I was listening intently because I was writing down all the vocabulary I was going to look up after, and I noticed he was kinda laughing. Anjo was actually laughing. Kaya nakitawa na rin ako. Ang kyuuuuuuuut soobra, and he was saying all this unnecessary but totally cute commentary about the code structure of the system, and I was thinking yabai, Athan is sooooo going to kill me.
Anyway after we finished our conversation I was feeling all giddy and shit, and the moment Anjo turned his back Jim went, "I'm so jealous." I was thinking shet sana hindi alam ni Anjo yung english word na yon, kaso biglang may follow-up si Jim e.
"Urayamashii. Jamie no riida wa totemo kakkoi desu kara."
Ginawa pang Nihongo amp! Walang pakundangan! Grabe. Grabe talaga I couldn't stop laughing. Damn you Jim.
Jim: "Narinig mo ba nung nagtatawanan kayo, nakikitawa rin ako? Hahaha parang kasali ako sa usapan."
Angkulet. Afterwards, I talked to Athan.

That night was incidentally Sir Butch's last night in Itami (uwi sya muna sa Pinas for two weeks) so shempre napadespedida naman kami. Dinner kami nina Jim, Jeff, Athan, Sir Butch and Sir Dante sa Mos Burger tas tawa lang kami ng tawa dun tungkol sa mga kagaguhan namin. Maya-maya nagyaya si Athan - si Athan! - ng karaoke. E minsan lang yung magyaya. Kaya ayun, inabot kami ng 5:30 kakakanta. Sobrang kulet. Basta.
Rollercoaster week talaga 'to. It started on such a low note, I was just about to die na talaga e... tas thankfully, it got better. Much better than I ever imagined. Haay. Arigatou, minna. Next week ulit. ;b

Slow News Week
Hindi naman ako busy lately. Galing nga ni Anjo e, kahit ma-delay raw yung bug fixing namin, "nani mo iimasen." (I won't say anything.) Wtf is up with that. Pwede pala yun. Anyway nothing much has been happening. Saturday night, kumain kami ni Jim sa Mos Burger tas tambay sa ilog hanggang around 2 (oks lang Jim secret na lang natin ng ilog yung ginawa mo dun ;b) tapos Sunday, nagsimba sa Tamatsukuri with Jeff and Sir Butch kung saan dahil sa kabibuhan ni Sir Butch, naging choir members kaming tatlo. Damn I have to attend church every week now. Today, well technically kaninang Monday, napraning si Jocs sa status ko na "ayoko na :'(" dahil akala nya project-related yun. Deins Jocs, don't worry. Nakakadepress lang talaga.
Dahil bored ako ipo-post ko na lang yung itsura ng desktop ko.
I am having waaaaay too much fun with the Google side bar. Yung una na may picture namin ni Utoy, countdown of the days until March 31, 2008 (my scheduled flight home, currently at 138 days) tas yung susunod, money manager (currently at Y2361. Shet wala na 'kong pera.) The third is a YouTube video downloader (stig), next is a shutdown shortcut (dahil tamad ako), and last is the current weather for Osaka (14 degrees.) Angkulet no. Love it love it love it.

Naubusan ako ng quotable quotes.
The unthinkable has happened. Haha. Anyway it's Saturday and we don't have (as far as I know) any plans of going out today. Baka mamaya yayain ko na lang si Jim at si Jeff tumambay sa ilog or something. In fairness ang wholesome namin, di ba.
Yesterday Boss Anjo mailed me to ask me to explain my bug fix for his review. So, being the obedient, diligent, and hard working person that I am, I explained my fix to him. He speaks basically no English at all so I spent a couple of hours composing my reply mail in Nihongo. My Master Plan is to minimize talking directly with him for the next five months and interact with him through mail na lang where I have the time to translate what we're saying to each other. Dumudugo kasi yung tenga ko pag kinakausap nya 'ko e. Tapos nauubusan na 'ko ng Nihongo, nauutal pa 'ko kasi pota di ko mapigilan, bumababa talaga yung IQ points ko in the presence of raw hotness. So mail na nga lang. Good plan, di ba? Ingenious! Galing na galing ako sa sarili ko e.

Basically he said he had no problem with my explanation, it was the greatest single piece of technical email he had ever received, yada yada yada (kung ayaw mo maniwala i-translate mo mag-isa yung sinabi nya, pakshet.) Ang galing ko pala talaga sa mga written docs, akala ko English lang e. (I can write it!) Anyway he goes on to say that he has just one point to say.

Translation: "This cause and fix, can you explain it verbally in Nihongo?"
Translation, without the Japanese bullshit politeness: "MAG-ARAL KA NGA MAG-NIHONGO!!!"
He goes on to say that right now it's not a problem pa naman, pero when the actual debugging phase starts I'm not going to be explaining my fixes through damn documents. So magiging importante na raw talaga that I learn to speak in Nihongo. In all fairness he's really polite about it, sa dulo sinabi pa nya na sa tingin din nya mahirap nga, pero kailangan talaga.
Feeling ko ploy lang 'tong sinasabi nyang kailangan ko matutong i-express ang sarili ko in Nihongo e. Para siguro maka-reply ako ng maayos pag nagtapat na sya ng feelings nya sa 'kin. Either sya or si Boyfriend. Or si Matsujun!

Nagpadinner ang napaka-hot daddy naming VP, si Ishikawa-san a.k.a. TI. Nakipagkita kami sa kanila ni Sir Butch sa Osaka at naghapunan ng kung aniks-aniks na Japanese food - hilaw na puso ng isda, hilaw na pusit, tenga ng God-knows-what, adobong hapon, sashimi, nabe, at marami pang iba. Pinainom nya rin kami ng sake na lasang vodka. Stig. In fairness galante sya. In fairness nakaka-in love pa rin sya kahit gusto nyang pag-usapan tipong GNP saka GDP ng Pilipinas at Japan. Shopping day ni Aps sa Blossom, somewhere in Osaka. In fairness ang mura talaga. Got to buy a pair of grey and black low-cut Chucks for \2900 (mga P1160) and a blue Nike backpack for \2000 (P800). Pwede na. Ako pala yung nag-shopping, damn you Aps you didn't buy anything.

After work, Jim, Jeff, Jocs, and I had dinner with Higashi-san, a random Japanese guy Jim became friends with. May hila-hila ring mga kaibigan si Higashi-san - si Wakako-san, isang chicks, at saka si Umeda-san, isang napakakulit na Hapon. After dinner nagkaraoke kami. First time ko mag-karaoke sa Japan! By the end of the night naging Azuma-san (different yomikata ng Higashi), Waka-pai (bastos 'to if you know what "oppai" means), at Umeda-chan (close na kami e) na ang tawag namin sa kanila. Bait, kulit pati magkaraoke ng mga Hapon. Todo-bigay kahit lintik sa pangit ng boses. Harharhar >XD

May have been the most expensive day EVER. Had brunch at Carnival's eat-all-you-can buffet, then went to Nippombashi in search of a laptop. Was supposed to buy either an IBM Thinkpad (T-series), a Dell Interio, or a Sony Vaio, but ended up buying an HP Pavilion TX1200 CTO Entertainment Notebook PC (RX695AV). AMD Turion dual core, 2GB memory, 120GB HDD, 12.1 inch screen, DVD-RW drive, 802.11a/b/g with Bluetooth support, Windows Vista Premium OS, tablet PC. 5% off. Plus free HP printer. ANO MAY ANGAL PA? PWEDE NA DI BA?

Went to Kyoto to retrieve SpongeBob SquarePillow, who I forgot on the train on the way home from the airport. One month nya kong inantay sa JR Kyoto Station. Anyway the four of us - Aps, Jeff, and Jocs - rented bikes and rode around the awesome city. Saw Nijo castle (Nijou? Nijojou? Whatever) pero sa labas lang, tas went to see the Golden Temple (andaming cute Caucasians), tas was supposed to head on to Gion to see the geishas kaso ginabi na kami, so I toured them around the JR station na lang since it was my second time already. Stig pa rin. Went to the Sky Garden (lampungan place), the gazebo place (second lampungan place), and the Skyway (the best lampungan place) to see the Kyoto Tower. Stig stig stig. May Starbucks Kyoto tumbler na rin ako sa wakas, harharhar :D

Moved house to Leopalace Wish, near the Hankyuu Itami station. This is going to be my home for the next five months. Malapit sa train station, sa 100-yen store, sa supermarket, sa karaokehan, sa ramenan, sa inuman. 15 minutes bike ride to the office. Tapos "Wish" pa pangalan nya. Ryan this is a sign, I'm telling you. Omg fangirl moment. Machi ni ai no uta, nagarehajimetara... hahahahaha XD

"Walang Ganito Sa Pinas" Despedida for Aps and Jocs, who will be returning the following day. Mr. Nonkiya, our favorite neighborhood okonomiyaki store, threw a nabe (hotpot) party for nine of us, completely free and totally delicious. Grabe talaga sa ingredients, halo-halo ng mushrooms, cabbage, ramen, pork, chicken, at kung ano-ano pa. First time ko mag-nabe party, nakikita ko lang dati yun sa mga J-doramas e. Ang sarap! I want another nabe party, demet!
November 3, Saturday
Woke up to find Jim curled up on the carpet below me (I was sleeping in the loft). Inantok sa wakas sa kapapanood ng Onepiece nya. Around noon, accompanied Sir Butch and Sir Dante to Rimuna to retrieve Jocs' bike, then me and Jim had went to the 99 yen store to hunt for cheap lunch. Grabe andami naming kinain, all for around \800 (P320) between the two of us. At 3:30, met up again with Sir Butch and Sir Dante for some wholesome karaoke fun. Shempre performance level yun no, andun si Jim e. Natapos kami around 7:30, tas dinner sa KFC , plotting with the managers on how to get Lunch Guy's heart. Closing na nung 10 pm, so bumili na lang kami ng beer sa vendo, tatlong order ng takoyaki sa kanto, onting chichirya sa convenience store, tas diretso na lang sa bahay ko for one round of wholesome inuman. Next week ulit.

Babay.
Dalawang buwan na akong nakakauwi galing Japan,
dala-dala ang proyektong C40 Debug. Dalawang buwan na
akong halos nakatira sa opisina. Alam 'to ng lahat -
ng pamilya, kaibigan, katrabaho. Hindi ito naging
madali. Madalas akong pumunta sa balkonahe ng building
namin upang gawin ang isa sa dalawang bagay - ang
magyosi, o i-contemplate ang pagtalon mula sa ikatlong
palapag.

Dahilan kung bakit ako lumilipad
I just have to write today, it's been weeks since I
last updated this thing. Anyway I've been living in
the office for the past two weeks, courtesy of my very
very easy project. Oh, did I mention that it's very
easy? It is. I've been going home 6 am most mornings
and coming in at around lunch. Boss ako e, ba't ba.

God, I looooooove my project. I love it so much I will
spend every waking hour (around 20? 21?) working on
it. I love it so much I will spend Saturdays and
Sundays and very precious holidays in the office so it
won't get delayed. (Any MORE delayed, that is.) I love
it so much I'm gonna work myself to DEATH for it. Oh,
did I mention that I love it? I do.
Rollercoaster ride. I've been bitchy, whiny, grumpy,
sleepy, weepy, sickly, and every other dwarf that's
ever lived because of this God-forsaken project.
Lately I've been finding myself talking TO myself. In
Nihongo. "Shou ga fucking nee yo." (There's no
choice.) "Muri ni shifuckingnaide, men, muri ni
shinaide." (Don't over-exert yourself.) I swear to God
I used to be normal.

So. Because I am such a fangirl, I will just hope and

I am so bored. Week-long vacation sa Konica Minolta, pero I've been coming here to the office with Jim since yesterday for some OT-OThan. (Besides, wala akong laptop sa apartment e, haha :D) Anyway some updates!

- July 9 to 13, AIDS (as if doing something) mode sa office.
- July 14, Saturday, libot around the South Tsukaguchi area with fellow KMBT peeps Jim, Aps and Aldy. Looked for Hana Yori Dango manga in vain. :'(
- July 15, Sunday, libot ng Nippombashi electronics district with the KMBT peeps, then met up with Kyocera Mita Corp (KMC) peeps Marci, Lany, Ren, Steph, and Bodgie at Universal City para pumetix, tapos tuloy sa apartment ni Steph for some Gokusen and some drinking (grabe si Ren tomador na).
- July 16, Monday, national holiday! Sarap ng almusal (shot ng Kahlua - in fairness may gatas). Punta ng Osakajokoen with the KMC peeps (kase dapat lahat ng Action Batch 7 makapunta dun) and then to Shinsaibashi for more money-burning fun. Nagpaka-adik sa percussion game (Seiseki happyou!) Hello again Japan!
For anyone wondering, I arrived safely here in Itami
with Aldy, Apany, Sir Art, and Jim last Sunday night.
The weather's exactly the same in Manila - sporadic
rain showers in between unbearable heat. Last time I
was here I was freezing my ass off. Well at least
parang asa Pilipinas pa rin ako.

Apparently, my birthday falls on a week-long company
holiday at our client (Konica Minolta). So happy
birthday talaga. Hehe. Am I gloating? Sorry. A month
ago kase I was really wishing I could go back there
and buy all the Hana Yori Dango manga and Arashi CDs I
could find (kase di ba MatsuJun is the new Taylor
Hanson) and I remember thinking, hmm, sana next year
makabalik na 'ko.
I think I'm turning Japanese. I really think so.

pa rin ako maka-get over the fact that Japanese TV is
consistently hilarious... kulet sobra e. Yeah, times

Anyway. My college friends know this... well, Dulce
does anyway. I have this theory that whatever your
birth date falls on, the year you turn that age will
be an especially memorable one. For example, Abs's
birthday is March 29, so the year she turns 29 will be
extra special.
So. Enough with the back story. I'm turning 25 this
year. In Japan. La lang, just wanted to share. ;)

Tokyo Wankei, and apparently he's also in Gokusen 2.
In fairness, cute sya a. ;b Kaya pala meron syang

sino si Teppei? The only Teppei I know is Kimura
Takuya's character in Karei Naru Ichizoku.
Dorama overload! Lately pati Japanese variety shows
pinapatos ko na rin... well, the ones with Arashi in
them, anyway. (Arashi -> MatsuJun's boyband) Japanese
TV is unexpectedly hilarious, grabe. Kahit
konting-konti lang yung naiintindihan ko sobrang benta
pa rin. Speaking of benta, some more office quotable
quotes before I go:

Quickie
Haven't been updating much lately. Anyway, a quick
recap of what's been up:

DVD marathons with Marie. Went to Quiapo three
weekends ago and bought a buckload of pirated goods.

The first two are chinovelas, the next three
koreanovelas, the next one a J-dorama, and the rest
are Western. So far, I've only watched parts of Meteor
Garden and Grey's. Marie, on the other hand, has
already finished four series. Anyway been watching
J-doramas from the office din. So far I have watched
(in chronological order):
- Ichi Ritoru no Namida (One Liter of Tears)
- Nodame Cantabile
- Hana Yori Dango (Boys before Flowers)
- Tokyo Wankei (Tokyo Bay)
- GTO (Great Teacher Onidzuka)
- Long Vacation
- Gokusen (The Gangster Teacher)
- Karei Naru Ichizoku (A Splendid Family)
Right now I'm in the middle of watching Good Luck, a
dorama by Kimura Takuya (my crush, and apparently the
most famous actor in Japan), Kekkon Dekinai Otoko
("The Man Who Can Not Get Married"), and Nobuta wo
Produce ("Producing Nobuta"). Sabay-sabay. My favorite
dorama so far? Yappari... Hana Yori Dango, hands
down. Biased din kase ako siguro kase it's Meteor
Garden all over again. I mean, I know a year ago I was
bitching about the guys in HYD being, um, less
pleasing to the eyes than the Taiwanese F4, but I've
since reformed. God, I looooooove Matsumoto Jun.
Comment nga ni Abby sa bago kong obsession, "Matsujun
is the new Taylor Hanson!" OMG, I sooo wanna go back
to Japan and... hmm, I dunno. It's not like I'll see
him there. Well at least I'll know he's in the same
vicinity. Relatively.
